[Day 6 - LA] DARE to be Cool

The community center was decorated with Halloween motifs and the children were dressed in cute costumes of favorite heroes or traditional imagery, but they were all here for the candy and to see real life elites. The kids and their parents are eager to see what the event will be about. The Elites are expected to perform and present a good example to the community.

OOC: Player should make a roll using Deception (Performing magic tricks, or trickery to entertain), Insight check (Find out what they need, or provide good advice), Persuasion (Entertain, or give a good speech/story), Athletics/Acrobatics (Physical Tricks to Entertain) or Sleight of Hand (Magic tricks, Balloon Animals) with a DC check of 15.

Characters gain a +2 circumstance bonus as they are cool Elites with powers, but children are children and very fickle. Each success is worth 1 point, but if they get three or more degrees of success the childrens' think they are trying to hard and they start losing points. So 1 to 2 degrees of success is great, but at 3 success or higher they gain only 1 point, and 4 degrees grants no points.

They want 20 points to impress the kids.

Arturo tried to tell the kids a story. They were too distracted by his choice of costume, however.

A kid asked, "Why are you a dog? Are you a bad dog?"

"No. I'm a police dog. I take a bite out of crime." He showed them a badge.

He realized he should have brought dumping.

Not to worry, Frankie Frankenstein appeared to save halloween from father christmas and the time clowns of saturn, or whatever the local halloween lore was. It didn't matter. What mattered was that she had a totally sick frankenstein's monster outfit that she'd conjured out of nowhere from an alternate universe in which frankensteins were probably pretty normal. And she was doing sick backflips and shit! The kind that would result in multiple lawsuits and potentially criminal neglibility lawsuits if any of these kids ever tried to recreate them, which is why she definitely probably at some point told them not to.

But backflips off the ceiling were unironically fucking rad.

"Backflips are lame, everyone is doing side flips now," a girl said.

"Hey, you can't say that, I got four successes!" she said, talking nonsense, "But here, sideflips!"

She proceeded to do some totally sick sideflips too.

"Boring, my sister can do that," they said before looking at their phones to watch the latest pranks from Lil Disaster.

"Side flips like this?" said the tuxedo-wearing teen, as he took a running start and attempted to launch himself into a side flip - but he tripped over his own feet and slammed his shoulder into the hard floor with a painful THUMP.

Instantly, Miles teleported back to a standing position and took a bow, pretending he had meant to do that all along. "Easy as pie," Miles croaked, as he clutched his bruised shoulder with his other hand.

6LA Sideflips, but do them ironically. Acrobatics +circumstance bonus DC15 | 1d20+11 ⇒ 12 fails with a natural 1, Sakkaku is so mean!

The kids love it, and soon the meme of Miles' incident is floating around the local web.

by Bee Haw
Bea was very excited to talk to teen-agers about a topic dear to her heart.

She was dressed in her 'queen bee' Halloween costume. It was something she'd made herself and worn when she was in high school (which was, after all, just last year) and had brought for good luck. To lift her spirits if the competition was brutal.

She spoke from the heart about the importance of setting boundaries. Knowing who you are and what you value. Standing up for what you believe is right. Being confident and courageous enough to risk other people disliking you. Standing up for your right to a clean and pure mind, body, and spirit! The right people would like you for exactly who you were. Your best self. The self that made you feel proud, rather than ashamed. They could each be that best version of themselves! She believed in them! Bee courageous enough to bee you!

She had a natural (elite-enhanced) talent for inspiring yee haw speeches. They did listen, fascinated.

Was she cool? No. But she was fearlessly beautifully earnestly uncool. Which was the heart of the message.

In the end, she got through to them! At least a little!

Camilo arrived with Frankie III wearing his Hamburglar outfit. He immediately sped around the room, bobbing and weaving between kids to deliver some WOW Meal toys to the younger children.

Nothing like bribery to win over a group of potentially hostile kids.

While Malik was fairly sure flying around would be impressive, it could also just be seen as showing off. Plus, a gymnasium may have high ceilings, but not *that* high.

Instead, Malik tried to get his brain a-working.

Insight Check for the Childrens! +2 for being a super cool Elite. | 1d20+8 ⇒ 21 That's...1 extra degree of success!

What do kids need? Discipline! Rigorous physical training punctuated by meditation and prayer! It was the only way! Or was it? Malik ended up suggesting to the small crowd of kids that had gathered around the fiery divine messenger that the best way to carry one's self is to be a person for others. If that meant self-denial, then so be it, but that was not the only path. One could give of one's self while enjoying the world and the people that one met. Or so he thought.

"Wow, you're so in character as Wednesday!"
"Yeah, how do you channel her energy?"

Iris looks between the two moms.

"...Years of training."

With a quiet sigh she turns back to the kids, giving candies before they were asked for, comforting words and shoulder pats before they were needed and in one case a barf bag seconds before disaster.

"Ugggggh."
