“I randomized some data points, but you can’t really copy ADINA… technically since I created her, I could be the father but that sounds extra bad. So I got nothing,” he said.

[Galatea]

Hana took in the data and then replied, “I need to experience more of this humanity directly to make a cogent argument or statement. There seems to be a disconnect between life experience and what is portrayed on available media and social media.”

''Of course darling. A good portion of what is available in the media is manipulated in some fashion with various degree of intent.'' she tilted her head ''I'll be glad to help you socialize.''

[Frankie Reynes]

"Well, she's impressive regardless. I mean, the best thing *I* ever built was made of paper-mache and macaroni. That became sentient too, but all of the glue made it immobile and we had to put it out of its misery."

[Markus Reed]

“That sounds, bad?” he responded.

[Dapper Dog]

Switching to fluent French Hana continued, “That is a good suggestion you have a surprising level of background knowledge in this area, Galatea, far more than Markus believed you would have. At least according to my files.”

“Oh, Error 606, unrecognized register to memory manifold, creating log. Log creation failed. Error 607, memory annex failure. Hello. Goodbye. Emergency shutdown, persona matrix integrity is at nominal levels.”

“Goodbye,” Hana then stopped moving as if frozen in place.

"I mean, not great, not terrible. Kind of like burying a pet, but it's a goldfish instead of a dog, so it doesn't hit quite as hard. Or maybe that's just because flushing them down the toilet takes all the gravitas out of it."

She looked back over to HANA when she spoke in fluent French, which Frankie could in fact speak despite being British and that seeming like some sort of grave sin. Something about having files on Galatea? Then... a weird error message.

"Uhm..."

Galatea was surprised by sudden switch to french and what she could understand to be an error message

"Anyone got that?" She inquired before moving to one of the consoles that was used to put Hana online

[Frankie Reynes]

"Oh yeah uh, something about you knowing more stuff than her files on you suggested, then something errory... something about an an unregistered cash register. No that doesn't sound right. Anyway, it was something about a memory thing."

[Markus Reed]

Markus sighed and said, “Damn, I should have seen that coming. Not a big deal. I'll run some diagnostics and pinpoint the fault. But it worked, right? Just needs some tweaking.”

[Galatea]

Galatea acknowledged Frankie's translation

''You did succeed in bringing Hana online...Markus?'' She got that before Hana's shutdown ''I am quite impressed...Mind if I take a look at your work? I might not understand much but I'd like to see!''

[Markus Reed]

"Really?" he said with surprise. "Uhh, sure, I guess."

[Frankie Reynes]

Look at his work? Oh my god.. were they... *both* nerds? There had to be some kind of rule against looking like Galatea did *and* being smart at the same time, right? Come to think of it, they'd been talking about a *lot* of complicated sounding stuff; her and HANA. So it was true: Frankie was outclassed in every department.

But she did have one possibly smart possibly stupid question:

"Why'd she go and speak French like that suddenly, though?"

[Markus Reed]

Markus glanced over his shoulder and the door closed and the lights dimmed. He said honestly, “So… yeah, I didn’t exactly build Hana, I modified her from a frame I got from the internet, like Amazon or Temu. Right? So the original creator of her frame was a French speaking company.”

“And not exactly… completely, legal. So be cool.”

[Galatea]

She pretty much doubted something so advanced could be delivered or ordered that was but she kept her pleasant face on.

''Of course, that makes sense so far''

[Frankie Reynes]

"You can order androids off amazon in this univ...university? Wow. I didn't know that."

[Markus Reed]

“Yeah,” he said humoring Frankie, “So, I built the software and AI core from an earlier version of ADINA, and then iterated on it all summer. So say like ADINA is centralized to her farm, HANA is only in this frame. I wanted HANA to have a more human-like experience being limited to a single frame of reference. So I cut awesome corners by just modifying a frame. But as you saw there are still some bugs to work out.”

“Fun fact, original bugs in computers were literal bugs that would get into the vacuum tubes.”

[Galatea]

Galatea nodded to the information she already knew while eyeing anything that could make her understand Hana's mechanism

''Oh really? That's funny''

[Frankie Reynes]

"Yeeeeaah... funny," she said, trying to fit in with the smart people.
