She frowned.

"The people responsible for that explosion and all the related crime - the drugs, the violence - will need to be brought to justice. That's our duty. Count me in."

"And have more faith in the cops! Don't assume people can be bought. There are good people everywhere working for justice. Working hard. Putting their lives at risk."

[Lil Disaster]

Lil Disaster looked at her and then sighed and said, “Alright fine, but only because your family fed me that badass chicken. Damn you so goodie two shows, that’s almost a vibe.”

She grinned.

"Speaking of home cooked goodness, I'm making lunch today! Tastes of Oklahoma. Chili and corn bread. Made from scratch from my mama's recipes. There will be plenty if you want to stop by and get a bite."

[Lil Disaster]

"Gimme dat taste of Oklahoma, put it in the fridge for me, but I will eat it tonight for sure," he said honestly.

"Got work to do."

[Bee Haw]

"For sure! There will be plenty leftover and it is the kind of food that is every bit as good re-heated later. Part of the charm of the recipe."

She grinned.

"Yeah, I need to get organized, get these leftovers labeled for anyone who wants, and then get on to the cafe for my shift. Xing is expecting her portion, also! My friend at work."

[Lil Disaster]

Lil Disaster frowned and then said, "Need help with the food stuff? Shit we can do a video, candid food stuff thing? You down?"

[Bee Haw]

"You are welcome to help! There's the cooking, and the finding the leftover dishes. Taking a bite during the cooking to see if it's as yummy as possible."

"Maybe a label on the fridge? Lunch coming at ... let's say 1 pm? Early afternoon? And something like 'help yourself to leftovers - plenty for contestants'?"

She laughed. "I don't know how many folks will want to try American food, but I'm sure lots of folks are busy and appreciate a home cooked meal. Hopefully."

[Lil Disaster]

"Free home cooked food? Yes please, if they don't appreciate it, fuck em'," he said honestly.

[Bee Haw]

"Are you serious about helping me cook? I can put you to work chopping vegetables and stuff." She grinned. "It's fun."

“If it was anyone else I would give them the finger salute, but I got time to kill. I can chop shit, kind of,” he admitted.

She smiled. They were already in the kitchen. She had the groceries. It was a good time to get it done in time to serve at lunch.

She pulled out two hand-written recipes. Her mama's hand-writing - a thin cursive.

"Every region has their own chili. Oklahoma cowboy chili is all about being at the crossroads of the midwest and west. Arkansas and Texas influences together. You get beans, which you never get in Texas chili. The midwest comes through in the tomato sauce and - secret ingredient - worcestershire sauce. And you get the Texas and even further south from thickening it with masa harina."

"The chopping is all chopping onions. Yellow onions to put in with the meat. Red onions for topper. You don't have to dice the tomatoes. They come diced in the can. And this is one of those cases where canned is more authentic than fresh."

"Of course, I'm fixin' to make enough that everyone could have some if they wanted, so it's a pile of onions."

[Lil Disaster]

"So... there are lots of kinds of chili, is that the same stuff they put on chili dogs? Cause I love those," he admitted while chopping onions.

[Bee Haw]

"It's similar but slightly different."

"Hot dog chili doesn't have beans. So more like Texas chili. But the secret ingredient in hot dog chili is ketchup. Which makes it sweeter."

"But there are so many varieties! Ground beef vs. shredded. Or using chicken. Or pork. Or lots of hot peppers. Or green chili. There are regional differences, yes. Cincinatti chili even has cinnamon in it! But also families have their favorites. There are chili cook-offs. Blue ribbon events. You can find what you like best and make it yours."

[Lil Disaster]

"Just give me Baddie Bea chili," he responded.

[Bee Haw]

She smiled very brightly at that.

"You are about to get a chance to taste it! Well, in a little more than an hour. The recipe needs time for everything to simmer. But when it's done, cooks can get the very first bite!"

She pre-heated the oven and started working on the cornbread, while he finished the onions.
