Modern Ethiopia in 2032
The state of Ethiopia in 2032 mirrors the state of much of the African nations and the African Union as a whole, a story of rebirth and renaissance as it were. The nations began to band together in a tighter unit by the beginning of the 2020’s and embraced the new world vision of the UN and the UNJE specifically. The terraforming of the Sahara was a turning point for much of northern Africa, while some regions are still desert to protect the heritage of the region the rest was turned into a lush and vibrant farming and tourist region.
The nations of the African Union have focused their energies on technology, artificial intelligence, and environmental technologies that have seen use around the globe jump starting what many consider a golden age of commerce and international dominance. The region has seen a population explosion of immigrants from the West and East, especially after the Chinese-American war many displaced peoples relocated to several African Union nations.
This was not a perfect situation and there was pushback as the trickle tuned into a flood, but the last ten years have seen a blending of cultures, ideas, and peoples. Ethiopia already had five official languages including Amharic, but now English, Chinese, and Korean are common languages as well.
The lifestyle of the common citizen is relatively high; upper education and trade school attendance is free in the nation and relatively affordable for non-citizens. The African Union member states maintain a universal income which has proven a great boon for all adult citizens, all nations contribute to the fund. There has been some grumbling with some nations feeling they put in more then they get back but thankfully the program has proven so successful that general support is incredibly high.
Technology access is widespread, and access to the high-speed global networks is accessible for all, from the villages to the larger cities. Augmented Reality is in common use, automated drones handle dangerous tasks or monotonous tasks, and advanced artificial intelligence networks for large scale data mining operations. In addition to this is the UNJE presence in Ethiopia from Paragon Tower in Adis Ababa to the UNJE Institute in Mudaba Adin this has spurred on a growing Elite driven industry in a variety of fields.
The culture of the region while dominated by the African majority has seen a great influx of Western and Eastern values with many families being blended culturally and ethnically. It is a multicultural melting pot and clashing of new ideas, new technologies, and the growth of Elite culture. Older generations are leery of this influx of outsiders but the benefits have silenced any real opposition to the recent changes.
It should be noted that religious practices are divided between numerous Christian denominations, Islamic traditions, and animist traditions are practiced throughout the region. The newest edition is what the netizens call Elitism, which is the worship of Elites as agents of the divine or the Divine themselves. There is a growth in secularism, a trend mirrored around the world.
