[Day 2 - EA] Second Interview

Post by Dapper Dog »

A studio office upstairs is prepared for a comfortable interview between one of the producers and the Elite Academy contestant. It has large wall length windows allowing plenty of light and a great view of the Refuge, there is a small fridge stocked with water and refreshments and the crew is ready.

Time for an interview.

OOC: Open to any Contestant, fist come and first served.

Wearing a light dress, jacket and some chunky boots for both literal and emotional support Iris turned up for her interview.

The elite looked slightly pale even by her standards, and the room had been pre-scouted several times in case of teleporting explosive suits. The carnage of the previous day was still clearly on her mind.

The producer entered and she smiled setting down a small tablet on a table next to her chair. She greeted Iris and then took a seat. She said in English, “I hope your morning is good? I heard you got injured in a fight?”

Iris smiles, slightly strained, extending a hand for a shake across the table.

"I've had better. Just lucky I suppose, doesn't make it much easier thinking about those who weren't."
She shakes her head and forces a slightly more positive expression that doesn't reach her (many) eyes.

"Just have to make sure no-one else gets hurt."

"Drives me?"
She blinks, several eyes opening along her arms to mimic the gesture.

"It's uh, important to me, I guess. When I see something bad is going to happen being able to stop it...I mean you kind of have to, right? Like a stroller rolling off the edge of a train platform, not stopping it is letting it happen."

She takes glass of water and sips for a few moments to think.

"But I think I'm still figuring out what drives me."
She chuckles.
"I kind of envy the folks who know exactly what they want to do and how they want to do it. Like that kid in your class who always knew they were going to be a doctor."

"It's something I need to do."

Which was much less lame than saying it was something her family made her do.

"But if I don't make it and I'm realistic, I mean, there's lots of people competing for it. So I'd just finish my degree, then try and make art. Although making a living through photography, that's probably almost as hard as winning the competition.

Still, it's a different way of making the world a better place, maybe a bit more indirect."

"Well let's get into that, what are your thoughts on your competition?" she asked.
Iris sits quietly for a few moments, digesting the question.

"I'm not as comfortable with people as some of the other elites, so it's a lot. But at the same time I think it's helpful to see elites who might be out there one day saving lives as normal people living theirs. Still college aged so, kinda feral. But Big Brother didn't shake anyone's faith in humanity."

Taking a deep breath.
"And as for the competition more specifically, early days yet, I guess? But the other contestants seem okay so far? Some of them are cool? It can be a weird vibe since we're all technically competing, but most of them have been chill, which I like. Although I think if you'd told teen me she'd be living in a house with a bunch of other 20 somethings being live streamed to the world she'd have run into her room and simply never come out again."

"Malik's look is pretty iconic, kinda biblical. But I've probably spent the most time with Miles? Although not that much. He kinda came off as another influencer but he did his best to help yesterday."

A shadow flickers across her face.
"So, him I guess. Interested to see if there's more to him. Well, his character I guess. Not that hard to see if there's more to anyone."

Her gaze idly flickers across the producer as she rapidly scans her interviewer for any illnesses or the like.

The woman was healthy, she could probably use a little more Iron maybe? Maybe some early tell-tale signs of potential pregnancy? She responded, “So Thousand Miles, would you see him as more an ally, is this the beginning of an alliance?”

Iris didn't need super senses to spot a leading question. But hey, drama was drama.

"Maybe so, if it all works out. I mean, we're pretty different. Maybe it's a complementary thing? And he speaks Greek, so he can't be all bad."

Then adding in her mother tongue. "Although his accent could use a little work."

"I don't have anything against the guy personally. But I'm at a point in my life where I tend to ignore anyone with 'lil' in their name. But hey, maybe there's a decent guy beneath that persona."

She didn't seem very confident.

"Right. Well, I'm Iris. Iris Pythia. I'm from Delphi in Greece. 20 years old now...so yikes, not a kid anymore."

She smiles ruefully.

"Growing up was pretty sheltered, my family runs a local business down there and for generations it's all been about keeping it going. So I'd get tutoring and then once I was old enough to walk I'd be helping out my mom and aunts with the work."

Her tone is a mixture of nostalgia and annoyance.
"So didn't meet a lot of kids until I started going to the local high school and that was kinda hard, they all knew eachother and I was that kid from the business? So I focused on art, which I was good at."

Transitioning smoothly. "See, powers wise I've got very good sense, sight especially. I can see pretty much anything anywhere until the curvature of the earth gets in the way, but I'm working on that. See through stuff, into stuff, past stuff. It's like true sight. So I can peer into your blood stream and know you're a little iron deficient."

Pause.

"Not an example by the way, you are a little iron deficient. And I can also use my gaze my eyes to stop people from doing stuff, draw them in. It's non-lethal so you know, useful for arresting people. But you can imagine, that much input all the time...well it's like having a hundred people screaming random facts at you always, forever. So I try to dampen it down, focus on stuff, go to quieter places."

Getting more animated.
"Which is where photography comes in. I take a photo and it's just...a photo, right? I can't accidentally see someone's organs or notice they have cancer or a swastika tattoo or their pores are clogged. Which by the way, up close? Very eww. It's just a photo, means I can focus on the image and not everything around and behind it.

So anyway, graduated, needed to go to college, the UNJE one here is good if you have powers and...here I am, I suppose. No radioactive barrels or tragic origin stories, I'm just me, just Iris."

"You can see inside me?" she asked.
"Not how I would really phrase it. I can see through matter if I want. But I try to not use it regularly since, kinda rude, right? And also kinda gross. But yeah, if it exists I can probably see it."

Leaning forward.
"So, as you can see, that's pretty rough with the 'well if you see a problem happening you should probably step in' outlook, right? I can't fly or teleport. So if I see something wrong I probably have to hustle over there or send a text or something."
