[Pregame, Monday the 9th, LA] Technical Assistance

[Dr. Ivashdi Patel]

"That is not the name," the professor replied.

"Hello, Markus." he smiled. "It is nice to meet you both, mad or not."

[Markus Reed]

Markus nodded and said, "Hey... uh, I said that. Guess you are new like me."

[Babble]

"That's right. I haven't actually seen my room yet. I figured I should check on Faraday availability first." He glanced at the computer. "Sorry, for interrupting your work."

[Markus Reed]

“Oh I don’t have to sit here, I can connect with most computers remotely through my brain,” he said demonstrating this by turning his back and typic code on the screen and controlling other aspects on screen.

“It’s faster this way, since I can work at speed of through which can often run ahead of the CPU. The Faraday setup should be easy the rooms are designed for customization due to the unique abilities of Elites.”

"How do you block out all the other signals?" he asked. "I usually use an audio or light based interface when talking with computers and machines."

He furrowed his brow at that and said, “I never thought about it, I guess my mind just filters the noise. I have never had an issue with it. At best a low buzzing maybe, but even that is probably not the right term. That’s the thing with Elites even when we have similar abilities they don’t work consistently.”

“Or maybe they do?”

[Dr. Ivashdi Patel]

Dr. Patel interjected, "I don't know is a good answer."

"It is." Arturo agreed. "But, this does suggest that I may be able to filter out the other signals eventually."

[Dr. Ivashdi Patel]

“Yes it does, many Elite students have been able to hone and improve their capabilities. How would you describe your abilities in your own words?” she asked.

"Evolving." he answered. "It started with human language. Cebuano, Tagalog and English were used interchangeably in my home and at school. As I grew older, I learned Ilocano and Hiligaynon and several other languages from other regions of the country. Then, Chinese, Arabic, Japanese and more. I learned sign language in minutes. Braille just as quickly."

"Then, there was a cat. A stray that kept prowling in my yard. I asked what it was hunting one day. 'Prey' it answered." he laughed. "Speaking with animals is vastly different. It isn't all verbal. Movement is a large part of it, as are scents, even temperature changes. My body adapted to understanding such scents and to producing them, if needed."

"That helped when I learned that plants could communicate as well. The method can be complex, but the messages are simple."

He looked at the computer again. "Reading computer code came fairly easily. But, my body adapted again to allow me to interact with data streams directly. My eyes can read and produce light patterns. I can understand and emit audio frequencies that can modulate or demodulate. Of course, almost everything is wireless now. Different radio frequencies. As I mentioned, I can receive and transmit that as well, but it's difficult to focus on one transmission."

[Dr. Ivashdi Patel]

“That’s an incredible adaptation, Arturo. Communication as a frame of evolution around something as memetic as communication and language is incredible. Do you find some ideas too complex to deliver to plants or ideas that plants understand too simplistic or alien for human beings to comprehend?” she responded.

[Babble]

"They have a very different sense of the world, not being able to see or hear. They can sense sunlight, touch, vibration, gravity and chemicals. That's how they perceive the world. So, their communication seems to express simple concepts, like danger." he explained. "But, it's possible that I don't have a full understanding."

“Look at it like idioms, to someone fluent and birthed into that language will understand most if not all with little context. While someone outside that language, even if they can speak it well, will have issues with the idioms. Not a perfect one to one but that is how I choose to interpret your response,” she said.

He nodded. "With animals, I feel like a fill in a lot of the gaps, assigning human ideas and expressions to things I may not fully grasp. That happens with written language when the reader lacks context. Assumptions are made that may be incorrect."

Markus chimed in with, "I sometimes get that feeling interfacing with machines."

Arturo nodded, then looked up. "A robot may have arms, legs, a torso and even a head. But, is that how it references them?"

“I mean this one probably not, it’s designed to be more like sleeve. Why we call it a platform, it’s like a pair of shoes or gloves. It serves a purpose and can be discarded when that purpose is served. It has no attachment to that platform because the software is not tied to the platform,” he responded.

“It’s based on some designs from the DCP.”

"I see....." He looked around the room. "Is there a tour of the STEM center?"

“Sure, Dr. Patel, I will be back just going to show him around,” he said and then gestured for Arturo to follow.

Markus takes him around the large building to give him the tour to better acquaint him with the ins and outs of the STEM Center.
