"Can you speak to us about your experience? If it is not too sensitive, of course."

Ruby thought it over and then said, “Yeah, I don’t mind. I was probably younger than you guys are now, at a… training center for the Elites, it was like a prototype for the UNJE Institute. It's a sappy story, there was a boy… wait I need to explain a few things first.”

“So as you can see my whole body turned into crystal, and the edges can be very sharp, dangerous even. I have learned over the years to dull that effect but when I was younger, I was all sharp edges all the time from the time I emerged.”

“So, I was a moody teen when i got to the training center and I eventually made some friends. But long story short, we met some teens from another… place. They were Elites like us and one of them had the silly name of Kid Paragon, and he was cool. Strong like me and very tough, tough enough to not cut with casual contact,” she said.

“Yadda, yadda, yadda, we got into some adventures and we got into this big fight to save his wo- his school right… his place. Anyway, the fighting, Kid Paragon and I got into a fight with this goon working for a criminal syndicate I think…”

She goes on to describe her battle with an elite and how they worked together to bring him down, she would keep the Elite grappled and Kid Paragon would pummel them until he broke out of her grasp. Then Kid Paragon took him into the skies and dropped him from very high up.

Eventually they had to basically choke the Elite out and bring him down, and Kid Paragon almost died in the battle but at the end of the day we won. She finished with, “But, eventually he had to go back… and I think about him from time to time.”

“But yeah, kind of a meandering story, there,” she said with an awkward smile.

"You two should get back in touch, at least grab coffee when you're on the same planet. He sounds like a decent guy, despite the kinda meh alias."

Iris looks down and realizes she'd actually taken some notes. Maybe having Ruby share her own experiences had been enough to attract her.

Iris looks pained and just nods awkwardly.

"No one is gone, as long as stories are told about them." Arturo spoke up. "Thank you for sharing."

"That's a good way to look at things, Arturo," she said.

Julia raised her hand and asked, "Will this be on the test?"

"No, not specifically, just an example. Check the syllabus for content to review before next class," Ruby responded.
