[Markus Reed]

Markus sipped on his chai from Elite Thai and glanced over at Hana as they walked next to him a loose hoodie and baggy jeans. He was doing his best to obscure the more robotic looking limbs and thus far it was mostly good.

“You know, I have never been to this part of the city?” he said to the android.

[Dapper Dog]

“I like the variety of people here,” Hana replied. “It is different from the Institute.”

[Galatea]

“Humans need constant exposure to new ideas to adjust, I only need to be introduced to new information to adjust my expectations accordingly,” Hana responded.

[Galatea]

''Same concepts dear. Different in shape but not in essence''

Galatea appeared walking next to them surprisingly quietly. She was wearing loose jeans and fairly colorful hoodie hid her face well enough to blend with the local styles.

Even her way to move had changed.

[Dapper Dog]

"I don't understand, what do you mean by essence? I do not see the difference," Hana countered.

[Markus Reed]

Markus took a sip and said, "I want to check out some anime and models, I will catch up."

He departed unless stopped.

[Galatea]

''The same function, meaning.'' she said and nodded to Markus as he left ''You said that humans need constant exposure to new ideas to adjust...new ideas is new information. So when you say that you only need to be introduced to new information to adjust you are saying the same thing but with a technological context instead of a social one.''

She smiled at the android

[Dapper Dog]

"I only need one experience to change my behavior, humans not so much," Hana said.

[Galatea]

''And how do you know if that single experience is a fair representation if you do not have other experiences to compare it with? In statistical analysis there are always outlying data points.''

She countered

[Dapper Dog]

"I had not considered that data point," the android responded. "This state of being is more complex than expected."

[Galatea]

''Indeed it is. Your specific situation is also unique...your intelligence is partially fluid but already partially crystallized.'' Dodges a dog turd on the sidewalk

''It's not a bad thing, mind you. It does it's unique set of challenges.''

[Dapper Dog]

“Should I be more fluid,” the android asked stopping to look at her. “Is that an impediment to better understanding and acquisition of knowledge?”

[Galatea]

Galatea stopped as well and landed a hand on her shoulder

''You are who you are, there is nothing wrong with that. It will hinder you in some ways, help you in others. That is the state of being that everyone finds itself in, darling. None of us is limitless and that is why we have friends and families.''

She paused

''Don't fret. You know the maxim Know thyself?''

[Dapper Dog]

"Yes."

"So limitation is an aspect of existence?" they responded. "A feature, not a so-called bug?"

[Galatea]

''That it is'' she replied ''You can always improve in certain areas but only so much before you have to cut back on others and, at some point it can become unhealthy.''

[Dapper Dog]

"A synthetic intelligence should be able to transcend such limitations. It seems only logical," the android responded. "This frame can be improved, memory expanded. Code can be iterated on. It is not a zero-sum game."

[Galatea]

''In theory...but in practice that is different. Let's say, for the sake of argument, that you could just upgrade yourself to break your limits. Your potential upgrades...who design them? You? Perhaps...but who tests them? You as well? Certainly. That's more time and energy not spent on learning an improving via other means but sure.''

She quirks an eyebrow

''Who will mine the metal then? Locate the veins of mineral? Pump the oil needed to make polymers? Who will produce energy for all of these tasks...still you?''

She smiles

''I don't think so...so, even if you could just upgrade yourself you would still depend on the labor of hundreds of not thousands.''

[Dapper Dog]

The android had to process that response and then said, “You have given me new data to consider. Markus is getting ice cream, do you want one?”

“Can we go in this store, it has interesting clothing I want to study.”

[Galatea]

''I'd be delighted. I do not know how much time I have left before the camareman finds me again but for now I say yes to both...do you have taste buds?''
