Janet intervened and said, “Wrap some up for us to go, I just remembered that we still need to get her situated in her dorm. We really appreciate the invitation but it may be best I get going.”

Sharetha looks wounded as Janet added, “It’s a long story, but it’s not personal. I am sure once we get things settled we can all enjoy a more comfortable evening. Thank you for your time, Doctor, but we should get going.”

“I am glad you both could come,” he said as he put an arm around is wife and added, “We’ll wrap yours to go.” From outside the children were peeking through the window at the slight altercation.

"In my what?" Shadow had turned quickly to look at Janet, eyes widened "I'm not saying with other people am I?"

“Just you in the room, I made sure of that,” she responded.

"But other people are there?"

Shadow took a brief look at the doorway then back.

“Other people live in the building, why don’t we discuss this outside. Go get some fresh air out front and I will join you shortly,” Janet responded.

There was a thankful expression (not that anyone could see it past her hood) and she dashed for the door. Only pausing briefly to say "thank you for having me. Your home is nice" although it lacked any emotion behind it as she soon dashed away out of the door and out of the house. And slightly down the street.

After about ten minutes of silence Janet comes out holding a wrapped paper plate piled high with what you assume is probably kabobs. She sighed and joined her and said, “My home is actually down the road, unless you are in a hurry to get to your dorm why don't we discuss your living situation because frankly I am concerned after that scene.”

“The dorms are single occupant room, but there will be other students around. But we can apply for a more solitary setup for your and their safety.”

When Janet finally left Shadow moved out from her hiding spot. The time giving her a chance to calm down.

"I'm not in a rush" she confirmed with a small nod (or nod-like movement from the hood "let's go."

There was a pause as she followed before she added "I'm sorry. She...wouldn't give me space."

“I think she thought she was helping and trying to be hospitable, nothing to apologize for on your end. It is what it is,” she replied succinctly.

“Just decompress,” she said trying to show some sympathy, her maternal or more precisely, her comforting skills were rusty. She was no parent, but the demands of the job seemed to be pushing her in that direction. “They understand, and she wants you to know she is very sorry for the whole thing.”

"I know she didn't mean anything..." Shadow trailed off, just looking down at the ground as she followed. Taking a short while before she spoke again.

"Maybe...I can apologise to them properly later before I go back to America."

“So tell me is living in the dorm going to work for you? Can you handle all the students? I don’t want to put you in a situation that is going to end with another scene,” she offered.

[Frozen Shadow]

"Just...how many students are we talking about?" the girl replied, peeking up at the older woman as she followed "I am trying to be on my best behaviour but I don't like crowds."

[Dapper Dog]

She had to think on that and said, “I think the amount of students is less than a hundred across the Institute. So you won’t be crowded at all. You might even make a friend your own age,” she offered as she turned to walk towards her own home.

"I see...." The girl looked down as she followed along. She thought about that many people and shuddered a little.

"I don't want friends though" she added quietly, clenching her fists again "just to take advantage of me. No thank you."

Janet softened at the response and took a seat on her stoop. She unwrapped the kabobs and said, “Well kid, I am not sure what else to say. I know things look dark but this could be a fresh start for you where no one really knows you. You can be whatever person you want to be.”

“I’m grabbing a beer, I assume you’re good?” she asked.

Reaching their destination Shadow finally took the bag off her back. She still kept it closer to her, but she took out a water bottle.

"I don't want a beer" she said quietly, opening and sipping her warm water. It was only after that she spoke again.

"I know you're trying to help, and I'm here because your lot didn't hound me by dangling money in front of me. And...I know this is a different place to America. I just want to see if you're all as truthful as you made yourselves out to be. But I still don't like crowds."

“Fair,” Janet responded before ducking inside, the door slightly ajar. A couple of minutes later she emerged with a beer and said, “I figured, let’s make a deal, you don’t have to trust me, but maybe give this whole dorm situation two weeks and if you absolutely hate it, then we will change the scenario. Just two weeks, is that okay?”

Shadow had sat down on the ground, holding her bag on her lap and waited for the woman to return. She eyed up the food but didn't take any.

"Two weeks?"

There was a pause at that, the girl looking thoughtful for a moment (not that it could be seen under the hood) before a nod.

"Ok. If it gets too much I can find somewhere else to sleep. There's a beach I saw, or benches."
